I don't enjoy it when Kinja threads have a main character.

I've been noticing a trend of Kinja main characters and I really don't like it.

What do "citizens with rights" have to do with this?

In the US it is built into music copyright law that songwriters are required to accept a fixed payment from artists wishing to cover the composition. This is known as mechanical license.
