JEOPARDY! FIGHT!!!!

You know, it used to be rare, but not so much anymore. Used to be they would deliberately set contestants of equal skill against each other. Now I think they might shuffle the deck to get a few more of these “biggest winners ever” by putting top tier contestants against people who are probably really nice, but not

And playing from the bottom of the board, which makes it difficult to catch up with him even if he misses on the Daily Doubles.

I think it counts as “fuck you for the length of a super nice vacation” money.

That seems to be the overall strategy to winning at Jeopardy.

That’s almost enough money to buy his kid admission to USC.

Plus that shit is taxed.

$460, 479, which is coming pretty close to what we would call “fuck you” amounts of money.

I’m not a member of his extended family, but I was still thinking of seeing if he wanted to hang out this weekend.

Yep. The Titans will get so pissed that they’ll transcend fiction and cross over into active reality. Or something.

Bottomline, if you’re going to play to an international audience, it’s a good idea to take norms/trends/conventions into account. This shit’s complicated.

So I’m not allowed to darken or lighten my own skin without hurting someone’s feelings?

Ha, I’m actually Canadian, but I see your point; we are inundated with American media but it must be less so elsewhere.

Not likely. And not when someone asks “how come this does not go both ways?”

people who assume “blackfaceing” are the actual racists.

POC lightening their skin is controversial and condemned in many places.

Because of history, those things are not equivalent. Blackface was once used in a way that dehumanized the people it was portraying: it is a part of a racist legacy. Even if the person doing it now has zero intention of doing anything racist, the act itself has a long history of racism attached to it, and it’s not

Like who? I have never seen a person of color paint their face white to cosplay as any white character ever. In your defense tho I was thinking the same thing when I came to that realization.

Europe doesn’t have the same experience with racism? You know the Portuguese invented the slave trade, then every major European nation perpetuated it, right? Also there was, you know, all of colonialism, and then the whole “Kill everyone who wasn’t white” thing in the 1930s and 40s. But sure, Europeans don’t know

No, they and other Europeans know what it is, they just create excuses.
