It’s so ingrained in us that we feel bad when we don’t.  It’s hard for just one restaurant to shift people’s habits, but a coalition of restaurants could start to make a change.  There’s a small percentage of waiters who would see less money with a fair standard wage instead of tipping (I would have been one of them),

HERE, HERE!!!! I loath tipping culture. I want it to end, but there is no end in sight! So I also tip plenty.

You calling me sanctimonious when the headline of this article refers to “me” as a fucking jerk (and the puppets in the comments are quick to repeat it) simply for recognizing that it used to be standard 10%, then 15%, and now it’s supposed to be 20? Fuck that. Stop paying COLA for these corporations and then jerking

Curious what your position is on the common working class family, some of whom might be waiters themselves, who deserve to have that occasional family outting, but may not neccessarily be able to afford a 20% tip. Do we tell them to stay home and not live life, not create memories, not take a breather together as a

If it isn’t on the bill, you don’t owe it. File this under - reasons US tipping culture should be eliminated.

Tipping is a service industry con, where the responsibility for paying the workers a fair rate for their labor is shifted from their employers to their customers. It’s total insanity that a lot of food industry workers depend on ETIQUETTE and not labor laws to receive a livable wage.

He did not say they do not tip. RE-READ

I despise the entire system of tipping and would love for it to end. As it stands now, tipping is nothing more than rich people exploiting their lower and middle class customers to help directly pay their lower and middle class employees, all so that they can pocket and hoard even more of the wealth they aren’t

They can unionize and go on strike. I’m not making up the difference for a greedy corporation. I’m not digging deep or tightening my fucking belt to support a bad system. YOU, encouraging people to do this, are part of the problem.

I wonder how they got the $400 number? To “save” that much you’d have to be spending $20k eating out and if you’re doing that and sweating $400, you’ve got a lot of skewed priorities.

No. I remember when I was first old enough to go out to eat without my parents, my parents told me to tip 15%. 20% was considered what you left for standout excellent service. Now 20% is the standard.

You are not. When I was younger it was 10% tip. I still tip 20% (most of the time) but I am now a positive campaigner for wage reform in the industry. Our waitstaff and vendors deserve a genuinely living wage, and we deserve to not have to tip to make up for crooked bosses. Until that day though...

no. 20% is an extremely generous tip. Call me a fucking jerk all you want. Tipping is stupid and sexist, and we should be pushing for a change that sees servers paid a fair wage and doesn’t put customers in that awkward situation of tipping. IT DOES NOT CREATE BETTER SERVICE. And you know what? The 2% they’re shorted

So Zack can afford to spend $10,400 a year on eating at restaurants but absolutely has to save $400 on the back of people making $3 an hour and having to put up with the Zacks of New York? FUCK YOU ZACK.

Brandon Routh is doing God’s work on Legends of Tomorrow.

This. These fools have destroyed so many lives. It’s mind-blowing how they’re still celebrated. How many of those fools are active gang members anyway?

Exactly what I was thinking. I hate to be that guy, but it’s going to be just like any other time they come together for “peace talks”. Things are better, until they’re not and it goes back to the same deaths and fights as before.

From what I’ve read, too many people romanticize this gang shit on here and see them as anti-heroes. I saw the same “look how they can make peace” thing when the Baltimore gangs “Came together” during the riots.

I was about to say the same thing. It’s cool they all came together for this peace thing, but uhhh...is this an indefinite thing or they just playing the shallow “thoughts and prayers” game for a day before it’s back to business.

I know people can’t choose how they grow up and sometimes they make mistakes. But you’re
