D+? This is the single shaggiest half-hour this show has ever put together — it read like a hasty first draft the whole way through. The conflicts didn't hit, most of the jokes didn't hit, and it just completely lacked the tightness of Community at its best or at least the general coherence of Community at its most

Well, it's one of the first major efforts in realism, of course it's not going to be all that exciting on a scene-per-scene basis. The "movie magic" comes from its evenhanded approach and uncompromising plot

Well, good for Myers for being familiar with Fellini? Knowing him, he could have just as easily requested for a plastic chicken that makes fart noises when you squeeze it to be director

Not really the time or place for this, but I had some issues with the BB finale. Not nearly enough for it to cast the rest of the series in a negative light, but I thought it did some of the same stuff that HIMYM did insofar as reversing the themes of the past few seasons (Walt deserving nothing for his crimes)

Super happy to see all of this strong coverage, especially because I remember hearing murmurings about TV Club Classic tapering off due to low readership? I hope that's never the case, it's an excellent part of AV Club coverage

Ah, that makes sense; it would have been truncated, but it would have been a character arc all the same.

Source on that? That's an interesting decision, because that would imply a growth in Don that they still haven't really let happen for six seasons.

Wasn't it though? It's not that it was one of the few exceptions to the show's timeline-appropriate music, it's that it was the only one. I'll chalk that up to first season experimentation though. It's not like it ruined a moment or anything.

Jesus, I didn't know about Weiner equating Glenn and Betty's relationship to his own relationship with his mother. Combined with how much season 6 digs into the Freudian, it makes a lot of sense.

Hey, I thought he was playing a golden-tongued conman! How can he con people through a VCR?!?!?!

I dunno, I think it might seem that way because the whole thing's projected through his demented duologue but from what I've read, Harmon and Roiland are both very attentive showrunners and have a large hand in the show's sensibilities. Roiland might change the diapers, but that doesn't mean Harmon isn't a good parent

The Koog approogs!

Glad I'm not the only person who kept getting major Brazil vibes from little dream angel Lemonhope

Yeah, it harkens back to the character realization Harmon had about her in the second half of season 1: she's a real person in a sitcom world, which is why she doesn't quite seem to fit in.

"MONSTER!"

John Oliver is a great voice actor. I was legitimately impressed with his work in "Abed's Uncontrollable Christmas" as well

*O'Neal sees op-Ed, drools whiskey*

I'd assume his life in the Fire Kingdom has been slowly slowly baking him, and at the end of this episode he's fully baked

His breakdown about knowing he did a lot of bad shit and really wanting to be treated like a person was some genuine pathos. I was like damn, they made Chang a person again in one speech.

Under-written? C'mon, it was like a minute!
