Hardly consider this "fighting" back. This was FULLY expected and something even Apple would probably like to see happening since it allows for an app that's been very stagnant to get frequent updates.

I would put VW into that mix as well. Granted the prior version of the Jetta had some Honda-esq looks to it, the latest redesign took it into it's own once again.

This is probably another reason for the redesign. they can eliminate a lot of needed pins with wireless syncing, wireless updates and AirPlay.

That's a great idea. It would allow for a lot more flexibility in what the pins can achieve.

Not to mention as the other commenter already said, USB can't do half of what the 30-pin (and now 9-pin) could do which made other devices have multiple ports. This isn't just for charging like most other phones use it for.
