Anthem has a far, far worse story than Division, and it’s dead. There’s no point in holding out hope for that mess of spaghetti code. EA isn’t going to pour good money after bad. That’s not their way.

Your thought experiment is a talking point justifying racism. Walk it back.
Just as a thought experiment, what if playing the thought experiment game about this is racist in and of itself? In all seriousness.
You can always tell when someone is going to say something really stupid, because they start with the words, “Just as a thought experiment...”
Just as a thought experiment, what if we imagine for a moment that removing the historical and cultural context is impossible and the very idea of suggesting we attempt to do so is wrongheaded and bad, amounting to little more than a weak attempt to justify repugnant racism?
No, management at Bioware AND EA are both responsible. Just blaming EA for these problems solves nothing.
But it’s a new IP and was designed to be a “live” game from the start. So I tend to view it differently than a traditionally SP game being forced to be live. Also, don’t lose sight of the fact you can have a live service game that is actually good and enjoyable and you need look no further than the very recent The…
Saying that BioWare caused a lot of their own problems on Anthem is not the same thing as being an “EA defender.”
It’s not that EA didn’t cause issues, it’s just that EA isn’t the ONLY problem. Bioware is causing a lot of their own problems, too.
Keep in mind, exclusivity on PC is not new. We’ve seen this before when MS has an exclusive in their store. Additionally, Steam has had a defacto exclusivity for most of the time when MS isn’t competing.
There absolutely is gigantic cognitive dissonance going on with a lot of these entitled gamers.
I am so completely done with this absolutely fucking moronic, misguided horseshit crusade against Epic.
Look, I get it, the Epic store has a long way to go, but it’s been around for FOUR GODDAMN MONTHS! Valve has had 12 YEARS to develop and build up Steam to where it is now. Yes there are things the Epic store should…
If you or anyone else reading this want to share your story, on or off the record, I’m at jason@kotaku.com. I believe very strongly that we need to keep reporting and talking about these things.
With 10+ years of experience in one of the big name studios myself, I can relate on all the issues in the previous article. Bioware is not alone, bad management, burnout, stress and anxiety is real. Thank you, Jason, for bringing this up to the public - sadly it’s something that needs more attention.
I don’t understand why people so in love with Steam (and, apparently, “competition”) are railing against the Epic Store, when they should be directing their oppositional voices towards Steam itself?
Consoles have been doing this for years idk why it’s blowing everyone’s mind on PC. Both stores are free and small downloads.
Steam’s current price (not including the sale) is $20. Which would translate to $39.6 million. So the actual answer lies somewhere between $39,600,000 and $118,800,000.
Even if it was on the low end, that could bankroll the development of an entire game.
Lol, as if gamers know what a boycott is.
So like I said, about .01%. And if getting fraudulent charges reversed is that much of a headache, get a better credit card company. It’s happened to me once and my wife twice, both times USAA contacted us and reversed the charges automatically. 0 headache.
