CPA here. #3 (file accurately) might sound kind of dumb but you’d be amazed how many people make simple mistakes on their returns, and with the IRS desperately behind on processing mail right now, it can take months to resolve even a simple discrepancy.
Management thinking we’re here for “Deadspin” and not “Magary, Ley, Petchesky, et al” is a supreme misunderstanding of the customer.
Whenever a coach is a total dick to a reporter for asking a perfectly reasonable question, I know he’s a real FOOBAW man and-- oh who are we kidding there’s no way Nagy is still leading this team 14 months from now.
Drew wrote an article a while back advancing a theory that handling logistical and other off-the-field matters is a far more important factor in the success of a team than most people realize. This is yet another great example of that. It’s fun to goof on the Jets but it’s pretty easy to imagine it’s way easier to…
To your last paragraph, why can’t the team just come and and say what they know everyone’s thinking? Why do they have to dance around and debate the veracity of the quote, when the sentiment is obviously true, whether or not that sequence of words actually came out of his mouth.
He’s fine! And listening to interviews with him is really interesting because (a) he’s self aware (i.e. he knows a lot of people hate him and doesn’t seem to give a shit), and (b) instead of doing the aw-shucks thing that we have been trained to like, he isn’t shy about telling you how hard he works and that he thinks…
There was another call in the Panthers-Bucs game where a defender grabbed the jersey and pushed up and got called for illegal hands to the face. Makes you wonder whether O-linemen are deliberately throwing their heads back to try to draw that call.
At least he’ll have plenty of time to put his toes in the water and ass in the sand.
I think another gross side consequence of all this is that it nearly completely blows away the sincerity of the NBA’s perceived “wokeness” over the last few years. It’s impossible not to wonder whether all of that was allowed because it was something the league truly believed in or because the league believed their…
This list naturally begs the questions: where does “Setting off an international incident with China because of a tweet” rank vis-a-vis “Getting hit by a car”?
It always makes me wonder what the writer is up to. I agree with the other commenters that “getting paid by the word” and “trying to feel glamorous” are good explanations, along with “look how normal this celebrity is!” and “look how eloquently I can describe this very mundane scene.”
Michael Baumann makes some good points in an article here (https://www.theringer.com/2019/10/10/20907661/nlds-game-5-nationals-dodgers-clayton-kershaw-playoff-choke), but the biggest is that Kershaw has struggled to get going this season, posting a 5.79 ERA in the first inning, but no higher than 3.65 in any other…
This isn’t the first time British Cycling has acted like humorless boobs: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6780341/British-Cycling-revokes-Porn-Pedallers-Cycling-Clubs-riding-licence.html
I will quote my high school baseball coach every time this silly ass debate happens: “Don’t want the other guy to celebrate? Don’t let him beat you.”
I chuckled at the original joke, but you are right. Who knows how far ahead he could have seen that thing, and even if he could, he may well have been looking down bc he wasn’t expecting A GIANT FUCKING LAKE in the road. When you suddenly see some unexpected thing in the path of your fast-moving bike, you basically…
Which was only made better by Troy and Joe explaining that that play couldn’t have been reviewed because no flag was thrown and then moving on as if that makes total sense.
One time we were with our friends (who live in New York) at their local neighborhood bar, and during our conversation about what we were going to do that weekend, one of them lowered their voice like they were going to ask an extremely personal question and said “Can we go to the Statue of Liberty with you?”
Just a thought from someone who was in the band at a “major” (Wake Forest, but I was there 2005-2009 so we played in some big games) program: at all games, but especially away games, we got pretty used to people saying shit to us. Sometimes some really vile stuff, but in the end we figured sticks and stones and all…
As an aside, does anyone else feel that the ridiculous TNF trash-talking fan promos somehow make the whole thing even lamer than it already is? I’m very tolerant of, and sometimes even enjoy, bad commercials but those abominations send me scrambling for the mute button every time.
