That is a very good question.
Indeed, I had no desire to say that the men were largely better than the women. I agree that Westeros is a horrible place, but that's just it—what was I supposed to enjoy about this story again, when pretty much everything about it goes out of its way to be unlikeable? What am I supposed to want to see occur?
Where did my post go? Anyway, I was referring to [spoilers] her incest with Jaime, as the reveal of Joffrey's questionable parentage was what set a lot of Westeros' troubles in motion, or at the very least made them worse [spoilers]. That was most certainly her choice, and look what ended up happening.
I'll acknowledge Arya (victim of circumstances, but strong personality), Sansa (neither a whore nor a manipulator, but largely an elaborate damsel in distress), and Brienne (very strong sense of duty). I won't excuse Cersei (manipulator), Catelyn (seemingly slipping into that role), Shae, or the other prostitute…
Thank you for your civil words, though.
The lead-up to my article was misleading, or my original post was, because I didn't specify the television series. I don't have HBO, and I've not watched very much of it. Thank you for your character explanations, though, even as "entitlement" seems like a recurring theme and doesn't make for very likeable…
Very nice explanations, thanks. I didn't mean to imply that "wanting to rule for the sake of having power" was a motivation that no one in real life had ever had, and I don't recall saying as such. I simply said that such thin character motivations did not hold my interest. To be honest I did feel sorry for Stannis…
Sorry, mild correction for the lead-up. Perhaps I should have mentioned that I was specifically referring to the books. I don't have HBO, and I've not seen much of the show.
In that case the story quite literally sounds like it's shooting itself in the foot, if it's basically condemning as pointless one of the few things that's really keeping this story going at all. Why should I feel that the story has any point if it doesn't even seem to make that claim itself?
My point is that:
Wonderful article. Was the full Vanquish game good? I adored the demo.
I've only seen a bit of the show, but I've read the first two Game of Thrones novels. Clash of Kings, the second novel, had a great ending, but the first two-thirds of the book were nearly unbearable for me. Have you ever seen a show that developed its plot up to an intensely stressful moment and then either ended…
There definitely is such a thing as "bad publicity." My heart goes out to all who had their email addresses revealed.
It's fantasy. The story clearly didn't stick to reality where the laws of nature as we know them are concerned (magic and fantasy creatures evidently do exist, even if neither are common), so why did it need to stick to reality in terms of how a number of the women act and are treated, and how does this improve the…
I just want to say that I find it bizarre that a number of people seem to be focusing exclusively on where I mention my dislike of how a number of the women in the series have either acted or been portrayed thus far. Even accounting for how women weren't always treated as being equal to men, that still doesn't…
I'd love to know where I claimed that Game of Thrones was sexist because of the nudity.
Thanks for the feature.
