I saw this when I was 17, and I was underwhelmed.  The movie shouted, "Hey, adults!  Teenagers aren't just cliches and stereotypes!  They're individuals!"  Yet it portrayed the adults as cliches and stereotypes.

Right, back on November 23, 1963.  In 2003, for the 40th anniversary, I made my own marathon - some on DVD (which I had to watch on my computer), some on VHS - of one story for each of the eight Doctors to that point.  In the years since, I've just done the one episode.

It's not a Thanksgiving custom, but every year on November 23 - which this year coincides with Black Friday - at 5:15pm*, I sit down and watch "An Unearthly Child."  This year I have to work, so depending on how things go, I may have to stay late and watch it in my office.

I've never seen more than brief bits of "Rotten," but it's long been on the list of short-lived shows I've wanted to see released on DVD (maybe with Mel's late-80s series "The Nutt House" to pad it out a bit).

I was visiting the family for Christmas, and their cable system had BBC America, which mine didn't at the time.  One evening, after most people had gone to bed, I saw that "The Office" was coming on, and I'd heard so many great things about it. [This was before the US version came along.] The only other person still

Now, now, it's nothing to do with being Whedon fans in particular; it's just the ignorance of youth.*  Stroll to close to anything with a young fandom and you'll hear people thinking their precious invented something it didn't.  At its worst, this leads to ridiculous accusations of theft against much older sources.

That was the one show (at least in the first two parts) that I had genuinely forgotten, and now I want to see at least some of it.  Partly to see if Browder's more recognizably Browder when we can hear him speak, and partly because with that title, we could mess with the youngsters' fragile minds:

When was the last time that "remake of a French film" wasn't a warning to all and sundry to stay far away?  "The Birdcage"?

My favorite line from that scene was always, "Boy, is my face red."

They were on at roughly the same point — "Capitol Critters" debuted exactly one month earlier and was cancelled one day later than FP* — but on different networks (ABC and CBS).  They were both part of that first batch of "We need our own 'Simpsons'!" animated series.  To be honest, I gave up on "Critters" after two

And given that Welchel even refused to appear in the episode where Natalie lost her virginity to her boyfriend, there's no way outside of fanfic it would ever have happened.

Miller, they started from the dragon character; Scorch was part of the ventriloquist/stand-up act of Ronn Lucas.  1992 was right in the midst of the trend of building shows around stand-up comedians, but since Scorch was the star of the act, he got the show.  If you go back a decade earlier, there was a popular
