Does that mean that I can buy a new Tesla without seats? Wooohoo!

It matters to Porsche, not to the customer. And yeah, Porsche wants to sell a high margin $180k car, not a low margin $250k car.

Anyone discerning will note the flared wheel arches, track suspension, spoiler, tires and stripped interior and realize that they gamed the test. It's an extremely impressive time, but it's also nowhere near a true production model. Given the same perks the Taycan would likely be able to shave just as much time off

Telsa rolled in with a new model that is clearly superior? Where? I haven’t seen one.. (oh yeah, cause it literally doesn’t exist yet)

Production vehicle spec? (again, doesn’t exist yet, let alone what was ran no one knows the setup)

Video proof? (Hmm, doesn’t exist either)

Significantly cheaper? Like the $35k model 3 at

And, yet, watch. Model S sales AGAIN this quarter will sag once more sequential and year-to-year.

You’ve clearly never seen how big the price tag is for OEM-level development.

Um @Porsche, this word Turbo does not mean what you think it does

And never forget the real losers. The ones drivings Nissans.

Don’t forget the real winners here.  Rich people that can afford a hundred thousand dollar plus car.

I don’t take it personally. I am an automotive journalist (among other things). I get paid to point out the good, bad, and stupid things that people do with cars.

You’re right on all of that. The difference is that all of those guys prepared for the effort. Tesla didn’t.

If he pulls it off I’ll be the first one to stand up and applaud his success.

Nah its the internet.

Robb, is it weird to have a bunch of internet d-bags assume you know very little about the subject that you’re actually an expert in?

Why is it when someone criticizes Tesla, it's always "you just hate Tesla, you oil sellout"? There is nothing wrong with criticizing a company. Companies improve solely because someone is critical of it.

Thats the record they should go for.

My outrage is never faux

James May is wrong. No manufacturers “tune” a car for the Ring. The Ring is primarily used for driveline endurance testing. If manufacturers truly used the Ring to set up cars they would actually understeer everywhere that is not the Ring due to the need for high speed stability there.

Sorry late to the party. davesaddiction is right. Tire matter a ton.

The point is, tires matter A TON, and running a set not available from the factory deserves a huge asterisk when it comes to these things. If they actually release a “track pack” Model S in the future with better suspension and stickier tires, then good for them.
