When I used to sail, we used sealed end rivets to prevent leaking.  And just because you never want to have to upend a sailboat with a water filled mast, we would put a marine sealant into the hole, put the sealed rivet into it and then seal it when done.  Never had an issue with those other than trying to remove them…

+1 for Monel rivets in automotive applications they are expensive, yep boat and plane expensive, but are strong and resist corrosion when dealing with mixes of aluminum and steel parts, way better than stainless steel rivets in this combination. One thing to keep in mind is look at the HOA dues on a house your are looking at buying. That will tell you how serious the HOA is. Ours is $120 a year and they pay for snow removal and salt as well as a small landscaping at the front of the neighborhood.
