And the asymmetry in the comedy community’s response to both is...uhhh...telling.

There was a German (Imperial, not yet Nazi) genocide against several South African ethnic groups in what is now Namibia.

This may be a function of age and I haven’t rewatched any of Arnold’s movies in some time but he’s always struck me as a more capable or at least confident romantic lead (at least within action movie standards), which lets his characters be less flat.

Interesting! I had started reading A Little Life after seeing so many positive reviews but quit two chapters in because I thought the writing was terrible. I then decided to spoil myself on the rest of the book to see if I should force myself to keep going and was so relieved to have dodged that bullet.

Wasn’t The OC primarily a romantic drama? This doesn’t seem like it’s exploring the same territory at all, and the original certainly didn’t.

The book Easy Riders, Raging Bulls makes this point about her and several other famous directors’ female collaborators whom they cast aside, but this is by far the strongest and most memorable example.

It looks like it was all filmed in LA. Ringo lives there, Paul doesn’t.

I’ve seen people wear both (separate wrists obviously). It’s wild.

They said the show wouldn’t give them the full script due to secrecy so I think they just had her snippet to work with and it seemed benign out of context.

That was my impression as well. I have no problem with Chastain & co defending their friend but she’s picking the wrong target. The profile didn’t paint the most flattering picture but it was really Twitter that exaggerated it into reputation destruction, not the writer.

Sounds like it’s gonna be a fun press tour for Tom Holland once (and if) this thing comes out.

Having spent entirely too much of my early 20s hanging out while my friends’ band was writing and recording music, all of it — fights, resentments, blatant time wasting, fucking around, having fun, collaborating, creating things out of thin airwas so painfully familiar. I thought they were actually better

Haven’t rewatched Punch Drunk Love in ages but I think it’s his warmest work.

Amy Winehouse’s popularity created a market for soulful female singers with retro production, hence the immediate success of Duffy and Adele (and finally some recognition for Sharon Jones). It’s unknown whether they would’ve made the same production choices if that hadn’t happened, regardless of what other artists

Given that this only covers their childhood and he’s the primary decision maker, it makes sense to me. I think they’ll definitely get more of a biopic down the road but it’s a little early for that; neither of them has even retired yet as far as I know.

Literally fake news:

That was my understanding, and that there were other “accidental discharge” accidents with the same gun. Unless that phrasing is casting a very wide net (which it very well may be), it suggests that either that weapon required additional training that people handling it did not receive, or perhaps some sort of faulty

I think Will Smith has some similarly ambivalent feelings about his own father, too. I was on a plane the other day and saw a man across the aisle wipe away tears while watching his YouTube show so I looked up what it was and it sounds like he dug into that there.

These attempts at divorcing Harry Potter from Rowling are never entirely convincing.

Does he not wash his hands then either?
