Yeah, that’s exactly what I’m saying. That her body of work got her to the Olympic Trials, just like a team’s regular season performance gets them to the playoffs. But if you go undefeated in the regular season and then lose in the playoffs, you’re done. You go home. Just like the Olympic Trials.

But it *IS* about that one event. Which is exactly how the Olympics will be run, too. You can hold every record in your sport, but if you fall in first heat at the Olympics, you’re going to be done, too. Is that fair? Would the gold medalist from that Olympics really be the best in the world? Probably not, but…

But that’s how a lot of competitions work. You earn the right to be in the trials where you have to perform again or you don’t go on to the Olympics.
That’s pretty much the same as any sport that has a playoff.
