The control surfaces on the Boeing 777 are hydraulically actuated. When the engines stopped so did the ability to control the airplane. When the RAT deploys it moves some hydraulic fluid around, but the autopilot is not designed to control the aircraft with limited control authority, that’s what pilots are for.…
