Agree with your take on BotW. No game has impressed me so much since....yeah, probably since Ocarina of time. Totally incredible game.

Get it for Mario too, then. It’s also incredible. Then looks forward to Metroid. Get Splatoon and Mario Kart if you haven’t already played it. Lots of fun to be had with the system, and it has two of the *best games ever made* out for it in its first six months.

Those people were morons. It all started because “oh my god, FF is slightly less popular for five years than usual!” I never stopped doubting our friends in Japan.

If Zelda or Mario lose, it will be because of a split vote, which sucks. They make everything else that came out this year look terrible by comparison.

Horizon was trash compared to Mario and Zelda. Its Metacritic score reflects that. Get over it, lol.

Man, you must really be a huge fan of 3D Marios, like you said. There hasn’t been fall damage in any of them. You can ground pound a foot away from the ground since 64.

If Zelda and Mario don’t win, it’ll indeed be because all the people with taste split their votes between the two. Both could easily be games of the decade, let alone the year. Two of the best games ever made.

Great article. Breath of the Wild and Mario Odyssey are two of the best games I’ve ever played, and Nintendo is the best developer on the planet, hands down. Whenever I start to lose faith in the games industry, Nintendo suddenly creates something incredible and rights the gaming world. This year they did it twice.…

Looking at this only makes me think Mario Odyssey is even more incredible. Nintendo is amazing. I don’t think there’s anybody in the company who isn’t world class at what they do.

As with most games nowadays, the animation is way worse than the rendering. They look like hyper-realistic rubber dolls. Facial animation is really unnatural looking.

It’s the *primary* console to own for me. I’ll never understand how any gamer could live without Mario, Zelda, or Metroid. Nintendo’s first party titles have no peers, as far as I’m concerned.

No, they put it under the “free” section of the app stores. Confused a lot of people, apparently.

If you want to be an asshole and just steal your games, yeah, you can do that. You can also play BotW on an emulator if you’re a thief. What’s your point?

It’s true. The Switch is so convenient that I’m either considering multiplatform games for it. It’s weird how much of a draw it has. It’s so fast and snappy. It’s just fun to pick up and play somehow. They did an amazing job with the system, for sure.

Console wars are all about momentum. Amazing first years like this will lead to more amazing years down the line. With a hot success on their hands, Nintendo won’t be afraid of pumping games into the system, and neither will third parties. I’m super excited.
