I'm just glad I haven't seen this movie, since it would no doubt interfere with the song as it sits within the folds of my brain. :)

I recall Costas suggested a boy whose religious-like fervor for baseball might consider a ballpark a sort of church, hence the cross being "in the ballpark." Simon seemed surprised by the analysis, but like Josey said, readily agreed it was perfectly valid. Big surprise Bob would have interpreted it that way. ;)

Simon has said "cross is in the ballpark" means the burdens of life, the crosses we bear, are doable, we're never given too much, it's all just about right, or "in the ballpark."
