The “I like you” v/s “I love you” is a bit different in Japanese culture. It’s part of the courtship ritual. A girl might “confess” to a boy (Or another girl. Or the reverse, in any permutation of genders.) by saying “suki desu.” Or literally “I like you.” Sort of. More literally “there is an affinity for,” implying

Unless you’re Japanese, in which case “Hiro” (pronounced the same) is perfectly acceptable for a boy.

Nope. I don’t mean I’d worn the sole through, but that I’d broke all the stitching out, worn holes in the toe leather over the safety toe, and destroyed some of the eyelets.  Working in metal fabrication is hard on boots.

There’s a bunch of WinCos around here, one only two miles or so away. Only a couple hundred yards further away than the local Walmart. Fred Meyers is closer (I dunno, 500 yards as the crow flies?) and a Safeway kinda between the three but at right angles to them. Chucks Produce is only about 3 miles away and probably

Yeah, my Mom (the kid’s great grandmother) isn’t too happy about it.

Supposed to be pleasant for the next few days too. I’m off until Tuesday, which will be the hottest day until next weekend at 82°.

It has been a delightfully perfect weather day here in the Pacific Northwest. Highs under 70, mostly cloudy with a bit of sun, no rain, just a slight breeze, and I’ve been making a lasagna and garlic bread for dinner with my neighbor. She’s vegetarian so I’m using “Beyond Sausage,” which I’ve used before and it’s

All apparently true, but I’m basing what I know of Burton’s time more on my Mom’s opinion since I don’t watch the show. (Unless I happen to be there with her. I don’t actually own a television.) She says he didn’t have much chemistry with the contestants. However I also know he didn’t get much time to really prepare

Learning a new language is like putting a new pattern on the way your brain sees the world. I’m nowhere near that level with Japanese, but I’m always pleased with myself when I understand a phrase or hear a word and know what they’re talking about. I took a couple of classes years ago because I was hearing things in

I use the ice-cream scale. At my local discount grocery (WinCo) a half-gallon of name-brand ice cream can usually be bought for between 3$ (on sale) and 4$. Around the corner at Safeway or Fred Meyers (Krogers) that exact same half gallon will be between $7 (on sale) and 8$.

When I was a kid right out of high school I worked at a hardware store briefly. This was before everywhere had barcode readers so every piece of inventory had to be hand priced with a label gun. We had a big book with every product in it that listed the item’s shelf price right next to the item’s cost.

Sir Terry always gets a star.

Yup. There’s a few items I go to Dollar Tree specifically for, but many other things I would never buy there. Particularly when you go to a regular store and see basically the same item at a lower price. I’ll use the example of 2-liter Shasta soda. 1$ at Dollar Tree, but at WinCo a couple blocks away it’s .79¢ for the

I’m not trying to keep Burton from the roll. I think he would be fine, and he’s got both a genial demeanor and a lot of trust capitol that some of the other options (cough cough mayim bialik cough cough) don’t really have. The problem with LeVar is that a substantial minority of viewers didn’t think he did a great

I still say the new host needs to be a beloved, charismatic and funny Canadian.

As far as I know, you are correct. The good news is the dub is pretty decent.

When I was in high school I had an ancient old International Scout that I drove everywhere. It had one of those old style fuel pumps on it that had a glass bowl (looked like a shot-glass) on the bottom containing the fuel filter with a little stirrup and screw that held it on.

When I first came across it many moons ago I bought the DVDs. Then I watched the whole thing subbed (my preference) then immediately watched it again dubbed hoping to make sense of it. Then again subbed.

After this complete and utter fiasco of their own making, the only way to get out of this with their foreskin intact is to choose a host who is not only beloved and charismatic, but who’s integrity is unimpeachable.

I actually ran across the live action Great Teacher Onizuka starring Takashi Sorimachi before I even knew about the anime. They’re very different animals. There’s also at least one related movie that I’ve seen.
