I was once at an author talk and a woman did this and she went on for a solid five minutes. It was pure “look at me, I am so erudite.” People were outwardly huffing and rolling their eyes (the woman on one side of me rolled her entire head). And after she was finished the author was like “ ... That’s fine. Next

i actually really hate the old-let’s-talk-in-an-accent-to-pretend-like-we’re-really-talking-the-language schtick, so I loved that they just jettisoned a Russian accent and just spoke in whatever accent they had.

I totally get that for American viewers a British accent is just another accent so it probably does take you out of it for a moment. For me though as someone who grew up on the outskirts of London, the British accents really served to underline normality and mundanity of everyone involved. I particularly liked the

I don’t know if I could process the actual information fast enough - though I do have difficulty understanding English accents at times as well.

People today can’t identify even the most common field flowers. Or know how flowers actually look. A while ago I had an idea for a bothanically themed tattoo and emailed a bunch of studios asking if they had someone who was good at drawing plants. All said yes, and all directed me to portfolios with idealized plants

A huge issue with burnout is that even if you could take a sick day, it likely wouldn’t do anything. There’s no cure except leaving that job. Not even a vacation helps. Maybe for a week or two, but after that, the burnout comes back. It is perpetual hell, as not everyone can just leave a job.

Unlike magazine editors, book editors leave it to the author to fact check. Authors can say whatever TF they want. When they lie or fuck up it’s on them.

And that bringing your own vehicle is just bad resource utilization, much better with one specialized going between certain optimal nexuses.

Tunnels are more expensive and more maintenance the raised roadways. The current problems with raised roadways are that they are planned around a ground-level centric idea of city planning. If we went all Coruscant with it and made buildings of multiple levels with multiple roadways and pathways between them, it would

In 2016 it was “I’m not a misogynist, I’d vote for Warren!”

As a quilter-adjacent personage, I have been sternly advised if the fabric scissors were ever used to cut something they were not designed to cut, I would have to pay to have them professionally resharpened. Seeing how much that cost made me exclaim, “But what it’s just a pair of scissors.

THANK YOU.

That’s like making a hockey pun for an article about tennis.

...I know you are trying to be cute, but something deep within me needs you to know that knitters and quilters are very different people and not equate them.

As a quilter and sewer I literally assumed this was going to be drama of someone using someone else’s fabric scissors on non fabric and I want you to know that in my head I thought war was FULLY justified just based on that.

HBO desperately wanted 10 seasons, but D&D refused.

1. Money. Its an extremely expensive show to produce, despite how susseful it is. They needed to wrap it up.

Same. It’s just... Dany’s whole thing since she got her dragons was that being the Queen of the 7 Kingdoms was her birthright and destiny, even though A) the people mostly did not want her, B) she had never been to Westeros until like last season, and had basically no knowledge of their issues or cultures, and C) her

I will second this and add that early morning matinees where you sneak in donuts are also an enjoyable experience.

Movie guy is 1000% spot on. I learned this lesson one day a few months after my kid was born when I left work early because I was sick. I wasn’t sick, just tired and unable to put up with people’s shit. Not wanting to take my surely ass home to my MIL and baby right away, I went to a movie. It was two hours of bliss.
