If he hadn’t done that he would’ve understeered into the barrier. But what do I know; maybe Robb Holland or some other hot shoe could hypothesize.

In a situation like Max’s below though, he powered away in the nick of time to avoid the barriers. Reflexes, skill - yes. Luck - whole heaping of it. A FWD would’ve been easier to drive in these conditions but you’re right, power oversteer when too hot will not do one any good.
