The problem is that there isn’t enough “othering” of these reckless monsters. They need to be pointed out, shamed, and punished for incubating variants and spreading the virus to children who can’t be vaccinated yet.

Yeah exactly, this article is trying to have it both ways and it just comes off as incredibly hypocritical.

“Wow, politico are such jerks for making people at LOTO look like rubes. But, yeah, they’re rubes. Just don’t have to say it out loud, Politico. That’s rude.”

This. You could flash yours back at them and they just won’t get it.

I always just assume they are complete idiots who think the little blue light on their dash means their headlights are on.

The high beams is either laziness to not replace their burnt out low beams or they are literally that incompetent.

Another I’d love to see discussed - why do so many people drive with their high beams on all the time? I don’t remember this being such an issue.

Aside from the obvious like cell phone use and such, there are 2 things which drive me absolutely bananas, and I believe it’s the same type of personality who engages in both:

They’re very common near schools or large factories on major roadways. Most of the time, the light doesn’t need to be active, but comes in handy at start/end of the day when you suddenly have an extra 1000 cars at that spot.

I see people watching videos (YouTube, Netflix, etc) every day on the interstate.

Nailed it. I don’t care if you want to drive under the speed limit because it’s snowing (I know how much it sucks to have shitty tires because you can’t afford new ones) but stay in the fucking right lane. I don’t care if you want to go 20 over the speed limit on this straight stretch of highway, but give me 5 seconds

Add to that people who slow down to pass. Why the fuck would you fly up on me going 15mph faster, just to camp in my blind-spot for 5 minutes, and then rush off going 90 again? Or when people fucking slow down to pass semi trucks. I understand that it’s a bit scary, especially when you are getting water spray from

There are two opposing forces during the commute that make for a nuisance for all other drivers. The people who are scared to death and never drive the speed limit are always getting in the way of the people in a big damn hurry and trying, desperately, to save some meaningful time from their 20 minute commute. Either

Not just smart phones with apps and texting. I’d say the use of cell phones in general. I’ve seen too many people with the phones up to their ears when driving who aren’t able to drive appropriately. It’s almost a daily occurrence that I see someone having to swerve back into their lane because they weren’t paying

I see people watching videos (YouTube, Netflix, etc) every day on the interstate. Mutiple... every single day.
The department of transportation is doing a study on the corridor I travel each day due to a statistically significant number of accidents. Who knows- maybe that’s part of it.

Yep. People who would rather inconvenience dozens of other cars than live with their minor mistake and just go around the block or make a u-turn.

Take your pick. You mentioned cell phone usage, but it’s so bad now, that when I see someone swerving around, or driving in a general idiotic way, I no longer think that person may be drunk because it’s always someone staring at their phone.

Smartphone use.

This is like people stopping at the top of an escalator while they decide which way to go.

Years ago, Nobel Prize winner Daniel Kahneman found that most people would be extremely happy if they could make just $60,000 a year, with his study finding declines in happiness above that. I’m not sure (but I would guess) that number has gone up with inflation, but it certainly speaks to the fact that the vast
