This might be a minor point, but Jamaica and Nigeria were unlikely to qualify for Olympic bball in the 1990s.  Steve Nash is Canadian, but I doubt he ever got to play in the Olympics. 

I don’t think it is splitting hairs at all, and it seems that most commenters here also disagree with you. If someone says “drop dead” or “go to hell” is that a death threat? I think few people would say so.

I am a 37 year old man.  When I was a kid I was always confused when women such as my mom would call their friends “girlfriends” as in, “I was having lunch with my girlfriend....”  I still find it weird and unnecessary.  I think that is fading now.  Do any women under 50 still do that?
