I think Apple, Nintendo, and Costco would disagree.

The point of first party console exclusives isn’t to make money on the game itself, it’s to drive people to the playstation ecosystem where Sony gets a licensing fee off of every game and accessory sold. that’s why you will never see first party games released day and date on PC. It will always be staggered.

Those studios still need people to buy into their ecosystem via a console in order to make most of the money from their software.  If you buy a game for the PS5, Sony gets a cut of that sale, same with Microsoft making money from Xbox games.

FWIW, I just happened to buy a sealed copy on eBay last night for $32.86 shipped. They’ve got some 15% off sale promotion going, and the listing said the seller had more copies at that same price...
