This is from the composer, right? Not the VFX people? I don’t see how this discounts the thinking that previs/storyboarding was done months ahead of time.

Honestly, the problem with the series as a MilSim was never the authenticity but that it’d get in the way of itself to be so authentic.

In Strange 1 he can play piano (and is a huge pop music buff), but it’s something he can’t do anymore after losing function in his hands.

Dude, the line between a VP in an unrelated division being casually aware of your work and “they ripped you off and your work in a movie” could stretch from here to the moon, and the timeline you’re theorizing makes no sense. They would’ve been deep into pre-visualization by the time your work was catching on.

Yeah... I’ve been following the dev for a while, as his game looks really cool, but I don’t see the similarities beyond the very general things you mentioned. I’ve seen the film twice now, and not once did I ever think, “Wow this is the same as that game I’ve watched being developed for a year+.” I don’t think this is

Jeremy, seriously, just shut up. Your article sucked, the formatting sucked, and you don’t need to be coming back and posting from behind “Blackdev” like you’ve been vindicated.

Thanks.

> I also thought the music fight scene was really odd and didn’t have anything happen prior to hint that he can do such a thing. (Or maybe he does have musical talent somewhere and I just forgot about it?)

So, if you look closely in the movie the... antagonist of that scene has a bunch of music books and his written spells look like they are made of music. When the antagonist was attacking he was pulling notes from his spell book, not just sheet music. Dr. Strange was just fighting back with his normal magic that in

In fairness to the developer himself, he specifically stated he didn’t think it had anything to do with his being black. It is a bit disingenuous the way Kotaku makes a big point of his race.

So, what are the visual comparisons? It’s the first question any reader would ask. Why even write this article if you can’t show or directly link to it? Is it a copyright issue that Kotaku can’t get around?

The world of social media is so insulated that creative people think that these big studios are just constantly trolling through random Twitters and TikToks to try and find stuff to rip off. Maybe — hear me out on this one — not everyone’s as obsessed with Twitter as people on Twitter seem to think?

Doesn’t look similar at all to what’s in the trailer.

This is more “inspired by”, if anything, but I certainly had never heard of the game until 5 minutes ago so I don’t know how much it “blew up online”.

Although I will say the music fight scene in the movie was a really weird thing to have happen

I don’t even see anything unique in the sword of symphony video, the guy waved his hands around and some music notes flew around.  Dr. Strange is constantly waving his hands around and all sorts of things are flying around.

Kung Fu Hustle did music fighting like 15 years ago

Having seen the film...no

need to see footage of the fight scene side by side to make my own conclusion. i guess i just feel sort of annoyed because i clicked all 50 hyperlinks in the article and didn’t even see a still shot from the movie.

Lol, yeah it's a fun little time killer for a couple hours at a fair price. But there's not much there and everything it's doing has been done before.

I agree that Vampire Survivors looks like a great game, but I think it’s impact on Gamepass will be minimal considering it only costs $3 to purchase.
