Yes to all this. Motion smoothing was the first thing to go on the TV we bought a few months ago. So many people, my father included, think that their TV is ready to go right out of the box. He was completely happy with the defaults, despite the whites being so, so blue and blinding. Despite the soap opera effect. Init

If you commonly find you’re having issues with understanding dialogue while sound fx and music are too loud, try setting the sound mode to Clear Voice (or the equivalent). It’ll help balance the sound so you don’t have to constantly keep raising/lowering the volume.

On my LG, I turn on the “Eye Comfort” mode (that’s hidden somewhere in the display settings), so that I don’t go blind any time I’m watching something with a lot of white backgrounds

I found Midsommar to be much more disturbing than Hereditary.

May I also submit “Kids”. That movie haunted me. I was probably 10 years older than the characters in the film, when it came out. It remains disturbing today.

Which one of these was supposed to be the life hack, as opposed to “the same shit everyone else has in their carry on bags, too?”

I have my old Skull Candy wired earbuds in a case in my travel stuff for just this reason—international flights. They are better quality and fit my ears better. I have two extra ear tips in there too. And since there was some room, I stashed a sub-par but working set of wireless earbuds for backup. I can’t use the

Giving due credit also has it’s less-altruistic benefits: staffers being openly lauded for their problem-solving or hard work generally gets other employees fired-up. Whenever I brag on a subordinate for finding a clever solution to a problem, I suddenly have a glut of employees coming to me with ways to solve other

If you want to roll the dice by leaving your belt on when going through the metal detector, and it goes off, you should have to go back to the end of the line.

Manager here. Please, please please do not micromanage your employees. My attitude is “I don’t want to hear about what you do, but feel free to see me with questions or if you need help.” Then make yourself available to guide your employees.

So first you guys won’t read our resumes. You let a system parse them for you first and only have them send you the “most qualified”... Now you're upset by something that has been a standard in the interview process because it is too much for you to be bothered with... Ffs.

That’s a terrible idea. You definitely shouldn’t send bribes to people, they usually don’t appreciate it.

Nah dude. If I’m your dream candidate and you would have hired me but for lack of a thank you note, I don’t want to work for you or your company. Probably means insufficient asskissing is penalized as a matter of course.

I starred this so hard.

I’d say they’re looking to see if you can problem-solve at all: Throw a non-job-domain problem at you and learn how you approach a problem and hear you reason your way through it using common sense:

“Well, this room’s about 8'x10'x15', so that’s ...8 x 150... 1200cf. I figure ball-pit balls are maybe 4" diameter.

A lot of people are pooh-poohing these questions and assuming they’re nonsense questions from an HR person.

Essentially, HR people are reading from a script. I never understood the point of having them at all. They can’t answer ANY job-related questions, they can’t answer anything ABOUT the job for which you’re interviewing. All they can do is read from their HR script. I remember telling an HR person who spelled out “do

I’m casually searching for my next job. I had a 1st round phone interview last month where I asked the interviewer about their history with the company. The only thing I got out of that question was he liked to talk about himself when he proceeded to spend most of our time giving his life history and shutting me out
