We are fluent in French. Our entire family have always found the French delightful, even in Paris. We were treated very well in Ireland, Scotland, and outside of London. I made it clear my experience was in London.
Also, you don't know the story of the way were treated, as I have not shared it with you, but simple

The UK has a brilliant tradition of literature. What's more, I think its gift of language, to the world, is one of the greatest if all gifts in the history if humanity. Its legal traditions are also remarkable.

I never said Americans can't be xenophobic.

Oh yes, xenophobia is everywhere, but not all peoples are as travel enthusiastic as the British.

It's odd to me that so many British (not all) seem to be both xenophobic, yet obsessed with visiting other countries. It's like they like places that are not the UK, but have trouble honoring the very people who created them.

If someone called me NorthAmerican, I would not be offended in the slightest. Second, am deeply familiar with British history, having my graduate and undergraduate degrees in 19th-century British literature. It's relationship with the continent is not as separate as you suggest.

My experience is that you refer to the English as "European," they get very offended. It's like they think their island is its very own continent.

Hey, it isn't just fellow Europeans. The only place I ever was treated badly for being an American (in Europe) was in London.

I'd like the answer to that as well.

Did everything go OK for you and baby? I am closely related to someone with serious mental illness who is early in pregnancy. She's off her meds and hanging on. So I am not just being idly nosy.

I don't get the appeal of either one, but honestly, I don't get why so many American women seem to find English actors more physically appealing and more talented solely based on their nationality.

One fifty for a coat? That's a great deal!

I am buying myself a dozen beautiful old rose plants from heirloomroses.com. Old roses are extremely easy to grow and adapt to almost all climates.

My sisters used to toss me between each other while jumping on my parents' bed. I was six months old.

This comment is smart and should not be in the gray!

Sigh. I really do understand thruway theses things work. OK?

Pretentious ....
Nah. You aren't worth it. This gives you validation.

Tell it to my five sisters. My daughter. My nine nieces. My mothers's sisters. Not a boy or a conservative in the bunch. And we are all educated and financially "comfy."
All the men in our lives are progressive as well.

I agree that people in the UK will call out racism. You see a lot of outrage when a story about racism hits the papers.

Those are great ideas! But cool purses or awesome shoes are good too.
