I don't know that it was entirely his choice? Definitely not ideal. I hope people haven't forgotten about the show!

I'm with you on the first part.
I just think it's stupid, not controversial.
His music is fine for me, but I can't really take it seriously because the persona is so fucking annoying. (And I'm someone who usually has a high tolerance for fucking annoying things.)
But it is BORING.
SAME. I'm not big on traditional superhero-type stories, even if Whedon does bring his unique skill-set/vision to it. Much prefer his original stuff.
It kind of reminds me of how angry Mariska Hargitay and others on Law and Order: SVU were have said to have been when Mike Tyson guest-starred.
It's otherwise been a very good show; this makes me really sad and kind of question the creators.
Counterpoint: Devin Faraci. I guess we have limits: Okay for a president; not okay for a reviewer/podcast host.
Yup, I like the first two quite a bit… But I remember as a kid watching the second one over and over and over. Seeing it at the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin as part of a quote-along night was THE BEST a few years back.
Can they please make him bi???
People like coming over to my place and checking out my record collection + bookshelves. (The DVD collection is now out of view, since that's the one type of physical media I haven't bought in years… still not sure why.)
My LTR and I totally bonded over the same things… Sonic Youth, movies (horror and high-brow), stand-up comedy, etc. We're kind of freakily alike. I bought him a record for Christmas last year and he bought me THE EXACT SAME ONE. For our birthdays this year (we're about two weeks apart), we accidentally bought each…
People who say "I like everything" piss me off. Or "I don't really listen to music."
Same! I love collecting records; I never listen to music off my computer at home anymore. (Weird to say, since when I was in high school, I was proud of my 20,000-song iTunes library and ridiculous external hard drive situation.)
Agreed. I still like High Fidelity; I just don't identify with the main character as much anymore. As a woman, though, I found growing up that I often identified with male characters more than the thankless "girlfriend" roles. We (recovering) female record snobs can be just as immature and navel-gazing as our male…
I feel like this is the one thing I've seen Jack Black in where I actually found him funny, FWIW.
I've seen a bunch of those types working at Barnes & Noble over the years too. It does make me kind of sad, in that it reminds me so many good record stores and video stores have closed. I miss living in Austin and spending a ton of time at I Luv Video and End of an Ear.
Yup… kind of a weird spot to hit.
IDK, I guess it's a lot less common for record snobs to be women, but I identified with Cusack's character far more than the girlfriend's (not saying that is a good thing—I hope I'm a bit more open-minded about other people's taste now then I was back then, and have matured a bit). I was also like, 15 at the time, and…
