Those phone videos were SO good.

Actually, I think this show does a nice job of focusing on both characters. Sometimes Ilana is Abbi's sidekick, and vice versa. Depends on the episode/plot.

My boyfriend's in the corporate world — or was… he couldn't stand it, so he quit and now works at a nonprofit — and I swear, I used to have to tell him to stop talking whenever he started talking about his job. He's such a cool dude, I was shocked to find out he was an accountant.

I don't see Kevin as flawless in the same way as Richie… he seems kind of interested in potentially cheating on his boyfriend with Patrick.

And later they switched Enlightened to Sunday evenings, where it died. :(

I know, what other answer could Kevin be expecting? That Richie cuts hair for fun?

Yes, you're quite right about that. And even within the spectrum of Latin Americans who hail from the same country, there are still tensions in the U.S. between immigrants, first generation, second generation, etc. (I've seen it in my boyfriend's Salvadoran/Salvadoran-American extended family.)

I'm definitely disgusted at Augustin, and hope he gets his ass kicked to the curb ASAP.

I think Ray always knew that… I think he has just finally realized that neither one of them will get what they want out of their "relationship." She wants someone who is better looking and has more status, and he's looking for someone he can relate to, carry on conversations with…

Honestly though… I don't think Ray wants Marnie as a girlfriend. He basically said he wanted to be with someone he has more in common with culturally (someone who likes the music he likes, and can carry on a decent conversation with). And I don't necessarily see Marnie as "out of his league…" I just see them as being

I would LOVE for it to be an hour long… especially if they kept all of the Augustin nonsense in the background, rather than giving that character any major story arcs.

(You also have him not wanting to speak Spanish right away, even though he clearly understands it and speaks it fluently… if reluctantly.)

Agreed. Also, it's an interesting look at socio-economic differences between the two characters. An interview with the actor who plays Augustin struck me, too… his word choice felt a little too in line with his character. He said he auditioned for the part of Richie, but ultimately "didn't give off that kind of hood

Man, I loved "Enlightened." Mike White and co. did a pretty great job telling that story, and I also loved their character-centric episodes.

Agreed on all points… but I think there's a big part of Ray that prides himself on being an intellectual, and Marnie is in no way the type of girlfriend he pictures himself being with in the long run, either. He said he wanted something deep, someone who appreciates Roxy Music, something he has something in common

Not surprised Ray broke things off with Marnie. She's embarrassed to be seen with him, but I think she's a bit shocked to realize that in his own way, he would also be embarrassed to be seen with her, too.

I felt ecstatic… HAD IT COMING.

Augustin needs to die DIE die DIE. Every week. They can reincarnate him like Kenny from "Southpark" and kill him again.

Him trying to be all "hermano" and shit… What an idiot. I wish Richie had decked him.

Richiiiiiiiiiiie… yes, he has totally won me over. My heart is melted too.
