My girlfriend had gastric bypass surgery and it left her with more health complications than it solved. Her weight did go down, from 400 to 174, but the health problems that followed really fucked her up until she died in september. She couldn't retain any nutrients and that caused havoc with her immune system.

Dude should step up and be honorable. He shouldn't let her take any crap for something she had no responsibility. He could say it was his decsion to terminate the marriage. Why should her reputation suffer because he wants to stay hidden?
