Two week behind, but there's also Mike referencing the "mater familias."

I just wish he would do more of it!

Is there going to be a "24 Hours" feature this year? I've enjoyed these, and gotten a lot of recommendations from each entry. (Though usually for the following year. Seriously, it'd be nice to get the 24 hours of horror on Oct 1 for planning purposes.)

I think it's 50-50. You're right to note the TONE of that monologue. How can it not be Hitch sneering at the audience (and probably his source material)? But it only half works as a "you're not really buying this academic hogwash, are you?" scene, and it's easy enough to take it at face value—"You've seen something so

This is the place for me to repost this awesome indie theater trailer for "They Live" ala 8-bit Capcom game: https://vimeo.com/137783498

Yes you should. Like @Hyperbolic_orbit:disqus says, it's working in a more off-kilter surreal vein, but there are some good creepy moments and Sam Neill's a lot of fun in it.

I've got extra love for this because: (1) Calls back to a favorite bit of throw-away dialog in "The Dark Knight," which is part of the source of (2) Andre Braugher's line reading, and (3) ties together with the dope alley earlier in the episode. Nice work there.

Hi all, saw "The Wicker Man" at my local arthouse last week, and one of the promos was this slice of fried gold. A fantastic "They Live!" promo done up as an old-timey Capcom game. I thought more people deserve to see it, so here it is:

Or, if he's worried about his body controlling his mind, use a clone that in its mid-20s, dump it when the knees start to ache, etc.

I get the feeling that she makes self-destructive choices that curb her ambition (so she doesn't have to fail). But she still has to have some stress in her career to be ok with herself, and has to be controlling over Jerry because it's all his fault.

"Thank you, wise bald man" (Game of Thrones). Great sarcastic comeback for pedantry—though my not-at-all bald wife smacks me ever time I use it on her.

Seems like between Netflix and Fandor, you can get about 90% of the Shudder catalog.

I remember the Power Windows-Presto-Roll the Bones getting love at the time, and people being kind of turned off by Counterparts (though it sold well). I'm with you on Counterparts, and it's always been my favorite post-Moving Pictures album. Also, if memory serves ,it had the least number of embarrassingly bad

Yeah, I found the two "Dragon Tattoos" to be overall about equal quality. Just glad Fincher's wasn't successful enough to compel remakes of the the other two book/movies (ya know, thereby wasting a bunch of talented people's time on diminishing returns).

Yep, I thought the same.

Part and parcel with just how rushed everything felt in this episode [short of Cersei's long walk].

I lean to "Good Rockin' Tonight" by Wynonie Harris [1948], but really there's 10+ good candidates. Nowadays I tend to think of the "long 1950s" that includes quite a bit of late '40s jump blues and Hank Williams as part of the run up to rock 'n roll.

@wrecksracer:disqus, could you cite the "famous article?" I'd be interested in taking a look at it. Thanks!

Seems like the place to post this review of the film "Gimme Shelter," which has a more nuanced take informed by how the Maysles brothers worked with the footage they had. "One of the film's great questions is the extent to which the Stones' manufactured stage personae contributed to the disaster at Altamont." http://cr
