I agree. Also, open hand techniques are more effective compared to closed fist as you can grab, scratch, poke, etc...With a closed fist you can only punch. A closed fist shows aggression, which will further instigate your opponent. An open hand conveys self-defense and it is seen as less aggressive behavior.
