that sounds like… the worst experience ever.

the scene in Amour where he finally asphyxiates his wife is one of the roughest things I've sat through this side of a Todd Solondz film. Haneke just plays it so straight. no embellishment. no melodrama. it's existentialist horror. that whole movie is an existentialist horror film more than a straight drama.

that movie scary as fuck for kids. that was a genuine nightmare inducer when I was a child. also, when Ratigan goes full-blooded psychotic dire rat beast in The Great Mouse Detective. *shudders*

The first movie scene that really scared the hell out of me was as crazy as this sounds… the corn field sequence in E.T. It doesn't effect me now but as a kid, each time E.T. and Elliot met for the first time, I would run screaming from the living room in terror.
