The whole trunk of the Type 4 is the engine bay. It’s not under anything like they Type 3's engine was.

The only problem I see is converting it to a pancake configuration, unless you plan on turning the whole trunk area of your Type 4 into an engine bay.  That being said, it’s your basic 911 motor with the middle pair of cylinders removed (and a shorter case and crank).  Should be super-reliable.

Far be it from me to criticize this beauty, but it really, really, really needs a 5-speed and a Dean Polopolus 930/4 motor.

Maybe I’m missing something here, but that doesn’t appear to be a 959 motor. The photos above show a naturally-aspirated engine, while the production 959 used a twin-turbo motor.
