The HMMWV is a badass vehicle and, logistically, it's everything the MB and GPW were and way the hell more.
They still have them, and god fucking dammit do they suck.
It may just be local tastes, but in the Yukon, you can't throw a rock without hitting what can be defined as a 'practical motorbike'. Larger and older, or newer and smaller Japanese cruisers, small and mid-size sportbikes (Mostly Ninja 250s and 500s) or dual-sports (Mostly Honda CRF230s or Kawasaki KLR650s). And,…
Now, would you say the wrapped Raptor is a Wrapptor?
The only thing 'horrible' about them on a daily basis, assuming you didn't buy it new, is the city fuel economy on them, and even then it's not really any worse than any other big SUV.
You can already see it kind of happening.
In the Yukon, that's a GOOD road.
Whitehorse, Yukon: Gotta be a mid-size Toyota pickup of some size. Frequently with a homemade capper or rack of some sort, and always with rust on the bed and fenders once you get older than the current generation.
'MURRRRRICA, that's why.
The vehicle itself is nothing exciting-I mean, it's a a pretty good vehicle, excellent at what it does, but still-but the fact that this is just one more example of the old 'Americans don't buy small cars' adage eroding. The fact that vehicles like this and the upcoming Jeep Renegade are generating a lot of interest…
Apples to apples, nobody's going to be directly comparing the gas and diesel options across two models of HD trucks.
For most hardcore trails, people don't start with a $45,000 truck. They buy an old Wrangler.
The Compass (And Patriot) were refreshed in 2013 with some small interior upgrades and changing out the CVT for a Hyundai-sourced 6-speed automatic.
The A-Jeep is speculative, and wasn't even on the radar when this plan was released in 2011.
Also, this handy picture of the Jeep long-term plan that denotes 4 new Chrysler-led new Jeep vehicles in 2016 and 2017. The Renegade is the Fiat-produced one in 2015.

Not to pick nits, but there's no 4x2 Renegade. 4x4 only, like a Jeep should be.
The Renegade is NOT replacing the Compass and Patriot. The Compass and Patriot are scheduled to be replaced by something else that will slot between the Renegade and the Cherokee.
I already own a Wrangler. I want a Renegade as well because it'll be substantially more efficient, comfortable, and better on ice. (Without a full-time 4WD, Wranglers, especially SWB ones, suck ass on slick roads)
The Fiat 1.4L Turbo/6-speed DDC is supposedly an option for it, but not sure if it's an option available in North America or not.
