This system would have made sense in the late 60s. I believe RCA held onto it thinking that nobody wanted to watch movies at home and that it would compete with broadcast TV.

He's actually pretty spot on. Tony Iommi came up with some pretty awesome riffs, but his other digs (which are just opinion, probably not hard and fast beliefs) are also held by quite a few out there.
