Yes— I’m a civil attorney and we always worry about the sympathy factor, even in cases where the facts don’t favor the person, and combine that with the allegations being old (“so who really knows what happened?” they probably said), and the general idea that women make up rape allegations for money or attention or…

I suppose, but that shouldn’t be what stops them from rendering the verdict. They can go on to recommend a lenient sentence because of his circumstances and do their best to keep him out of jail on those grounds, but letting him go free with jeopardy attached would be misconduct of the first order.
