I don't recall Spotnitz saying that. I do recall him saying that he didn't want the audience only concentrating on that, which is a very fair statement.

Wasn't there a line about how everyone has inexplicable parts of their DNA or something?
I tend to think a lot of this could've been made better with a director who wasn't as close to the script.
I don't think O'Malley actually had alien DNA as it seemed pretty clear he was supposed to be ill. He was either lying about it or the whole thing was just poorly explained (VERY possible). But by every understanding of the way sick people are portrayed on TV, O'Malley was sick.
You can't and I guess it's somewhat speculation on my part that the ending spaceship was an alien one, but it's just in keeping with the way the show has always worked. It referred back to the alien spaceship hovering over Scully in Patient X, not to mention that the aliens would naturally go to Scully since she has…
Yes, definitely.
I think the alien spaceship is supposed to reveal that the aliens were as involved as we've long suspected. A stupid fake out, though. There was no need to bother with that (and it seemed forgotten in this episode).
Is it wrong that I'd find that absolutely hilarious?
The Lost mythology makes a lot more sense than The X-Files, especially post-season six X-Files.
I think so, too, but you'd think they'd fix his throat.
When I saw Morgan was listed as executive producer at the end of every episode I thought he might've had more to do with crafting the overall mythology but it appears not. Spotnitz wrote a lot of the mythology episodes with Carter and I'm thinking he held in some of Carter's more… "strange" ideas.
CSM is so awesome that I'll accept him surviving anything.
I reject the notion that Chris Carter was always a bad writer. When you look back at the episodes he scripted there are some absolute stone cold classic episodes of television in the bunch. The guy who wrote "Anasazi" and "Paper Clip" is not a talentless hack. Period. I've seen a lot of this talk, and not just from…
Yeah, Coulter is fantastic. His Sopranos work was, of course, splendid.
I thought the calculator guy might've been in his mind, too, but his continued presence in the scene makes me think he wasn't.
I thought this held together a little bit better than the pilot did. Cannavale was funny while coked up, but it's not something I need to see all too often. There's enough drama here that we don't need to have Richie bouncing off the walls 24/7.
I watched The Exorcist for the first time a couple weeks ago and it scared the shit outta me. I'm 26. I damn well hope I never get to an age when films don't have the ability to scare me anymore.
Almost all the episodes have felt overstuffed. It's definitely the season's biggest flaw.
When that ended I thought to myself, "A lot of people are going to hate it."
There are some great endings, but I don't think I'm looking at negatives over positives. Glancing over his bibliography rarely makes me think "nailed it."
