Ah, I don’t know, I mean she might be but you do get the odd SNL cast member who sticks around for longer. Moynihan was here for 9 and Fred Armisen lasted 11. If Kate makes it to 10 she’ll be the longest-serving female member, passing Maya Rudolph.

Maybe not the musical part, but I’ve definitely seen it pop up a few times on lists of worst lyrical songs.
I thought the McEnroe appearance was funny enough. I do agree that Saoirse Ronan is kind of beating a dead horse with the name thing though. It seems like any appearance she does overseas has to include a joke about it, even though she’s been pretty established for a few years now, and they basically based the whole…
Why? Irish people are pretty comfortable with the fact that our language sounds like nonsense. We genuinely relish how difficult it is for other English speakers to understand at all.
Irish people aren’t a race. Also, the fact that the lead actress was Irish should clue you in that we weren’t going to find it too offensive.
I did like the Safelite sketch, but I can’t lie, The Last Fry really was a lot more memorable. I can’t really dislike any sketches with Beck Bennett in it.
Scott and Scott seem to strongly disagree with the notion that this is an album fans won’t enjoy.
I thought this was arguably the best one this season, although it felt like there were a below-average number of sketches. Did Weekend Report just elbow them out or something?
You wouldn’t understand, Dad. You’re not with it.
Giving it a good score shows the world that he’s not a white supremacist.
Saying he’s the only depiction is hardly the fault of the Simpsons’s staff though. If he’s the only one, then no matter what they do it’s going to be the one datapoint for millions of people and will inevitably be how they see India. No one character, much less a supporting character, could ever possibly represent a…
Plus Bumblebee Man is way less fleshed-out than Apu, and he’s (as far as I’m aware) the only Hispanic character in the show.
Why is it using the background from Game Grumps though?
And yet Australians seem to love Tobias, whose Australian accent is absolutely atrocious, along with that episode in general.
It might not be “based” on it, but when it comes to dealing with foreign cultures that’s 90% of the material. Everyone who isn’t American is defined by their country of origin, except for the “back to Winnipeg” guy.
It’s kind of an international stereotype tbh, but having him play a doctor or engineer would be equally as stereotypical these days. However, I don’t think the title of “clerk” is right, in my experience, they’re usually the owner of the shop, like Apu, not just working there.
Prejudice against Indians in America isn’t really either though. Different story in Britain, but America doesn’t really have any special history of institutional racism against Indians, despite having it against their neighbours to the east, north and west.
On TV in general? Sure. In the Simpsons though? The only non-celebrity Irish or Italian characters I can think of Luigi and the mob for Italians and then leprechauns and old-timey policemen for Irish people. All of them 100% stereotypes with even worse accents than Apu. You can argue it’s not the same, because they’re…
I fail to see how that makes a difference. “It came later”, but so did 99% of what made the show a memorable cult hit.
I’m glad this was the top comment because saying Apu is just a funny voice and that’s it is probably the stupidest fucking thing I have ever heard anyone say about the Simpsons, and that includes people saying it’s still just as good as it used to be.
