That’s a different class - I don’t want a plucky wagon, or I’d just buy a Subaru 2.5i Outback. The Alltrack isn’t competing with this Buick, it’s competing with the baseline Outback. The Buick has 50% more horsepower than an Alltrack and is competing with the V60, BMW 3 Series Wagon, and Audi Allroad.

That’s what I was figuring. What worries me is the remarks about ‘competing with Audi and BMW.’ The Allroad and 3 series wagon both start around $42k, so Buick will probably be somewhere between the 3.6R Outback and a 3 series.

If it’s under $30k I’ll buy one right now.

No, it’s not. Leaving tomorrow at 10 AM it’s $136 for the cheapest ticket (it’s half that if you want to leave at 3 AM). I’ve done round trip from DC to NYC and I think it was less than $100 total. Amtrak is generally more expensive than driving but cheaper than flying.

I think you need to start using a new search engine. Even if I fly nonstop tomorrow it’s still less than $500.

Would have been significantly worse if it was a down escalator thrown into reverse - falling down is always worse than falling up.

I strongly considered a GoRuck GR1, but couldn’t pull the trigger due to price. I loved the clamshell design and MOLLE, so I eventually bought a BoGear Spare Camel. Handmade in Brisbane, Australia and fully customizable. The interior organizer is better than the GoRuck IMO. The best part is that the AUD to USD

Believe it or not, one psychological test observed that the stress of landing on a carrier causes pilots more is more stressful than what troops experience in combat.

4x? Adjusted for inflation, the Big Dig cost $8.08 billion, which is nearly 30x what this tunnel is projected to cost (granted digging a tunnel in downtown Boston is significantly more difficult than blasting through the side of an uninhabited mountain)

In general, used Xterras seem to undercut similarly straight-looking 4Runners by at least $1,000

Has anyone ever figured out why the rental car place always gives you TWO key fobs that are held together with a loop of aircraft cable? Why not one key? Why not a regular keychain so you can break them apart?

This sounds like a job for Clarkson, Hammond and May!

I see they’ve revived the whole theory that evil tech villains are so advanced they type one handed (a la Elliot Carver in Tomorrow Never Dies)

There’s undoubtedly a margin of error, although it’s usually only a few percentage points. I regularly use my phone to record my bike rides but I also have a hard wired speedo recording my distance and speed using a magentic sensor and RPM of the wheel. They were never the same - but were usually very close. I think

Asshat vandals in Long Beach seem like the exact people to blatantly confuse who is actually the ‘victim’ (VW owners) and the ‘perpetrator’ (VW) in Dieselgate.

I had a 2000 Honda Passport with a lot of miles and some electrical gremlins. The 4x4 light blinked consistently when not engaged. 4x4 worked fine and it stayed lit when I pushed the button but it would blink when in 2 Hi. My Aunt’s old mechanic (who I bought the car from) told her not to worry about it, but if it was

You could do this in my first car - 1988 Camry - AND you could start it with a screwdriver (or knife, another key, anything narrow and pointy, really)

Yeeeeah, I was kinda thinking the ballistic missile hitting its target is a much bigger deal than an interceptor going astray. I don’t see how the author missed that.

This is a terrible reason IMO. 99.99% of VW customers will never fill their car from a can on the side of the road - they will fill at a gas station (or call AAA and make someone else do it roadside). Putting it on the opposite side is actually worse, because you have to exit into the gas station driving lane and walk

Not an accounting expert... but Tesla ‘allows’ employees to purchase their stock at a discounted rate, they don’t give it out. So if Tesla is writing off 100% of the market value of stock they let employees purchase wouldn’t they be making money off the portion that’s not discounted (i.e. what the employee actually
