Is there another country in the world where “I am too incapable to take a test” isn’t an automatic no for citizenship?

Oh my god shut up. Why are people like you everywhere these days? Not everything has to be about your stupid little issue of the day bs.
In Asimov’s “Foundation” Anacreon had lost nuclear technology, yet still has FTL spaceships. When I first read it (as a teenager), I could not help wondering how these spaceships were powered — and Salvor Hardin sort of answers this question: “Back to oil and coal, are they?” Coal-powered FTL ships, apparently. So…
Also, did it ever occur to them that their children and grandchildren are less optimistic because, at least in the US, their generation voted in politicians that started dismantling the New Deal/Great Society, leading to ever increasing income inequality and decreasing upward mobility. Then these nostalgic boomers got…
If I had to go to a corner after seeing Mad Max to think of what I have done, all I would be able to think about would be “BLIND DUDE PLAYING A FLAMETHROWER GUITAR!!!” and stuff like that.
Mad Max is, ironically, directed by a grampa.
Because if an honest to god high speed rail system existed between LA and Vegas your 4-5 hour commute at highway speeds would be a 1 hour trip on a high-speed railway.
Cool. Never had the chance to ride one on the West Coast. But all I seem to hear about Midwest to East Coast Amtrak is “A six hour drive took 14 hours on Amtrak and I got stabbed by three different hobos on the way”.
The only unpleasant thing about Amtrak is that it costs more to take the train from Portland to Seattle than it does to fly.
It is different because of the size. Outside of the east coast it’s hours from one metro area to another.
You’ve got it backwards. Americans don’t ride trains because the trains SUCK and driving is easier, more pleasant, and more efficient than Amtrak. They’re the butt of every joke for a reason.
I think the solution is to scale back the ambition for national train service. Amtrcak is using money from the North East corridor to support service all across the country that runs on freight track. Just cut the service where there isn’t enough ridership and funnel the funds into the North East corridor and a west…
Yeah, that’s one thing that the movie kind of glosses over is just how long the trip is. Frodo was gone a couple years.
I can totally see Texas as Mordor.

I hadn’t seen any previews for San Andreas until I went to see Mad Max today, but my wife and I, having previously lived in L.A. for a decade, were in stitches. That first earthquake in the trailer where the daughter panics was like a 4 at most and it TOOK DOWN A BUILDING.
Want to lose the dadbod? Powerlift. Squat, bench, dead lift. All your numbers need to be 315 and over. Do one move every day except Sundays. And do accessory work to help with the big 3 lifts and in 2 months, the fat will shed off and the bitches will be calling. And men will respect you and always want to hang out…
This really, really stupid advice helped me lose 30 pounds: Don’t buy anything bad. When I went grocery shopping, I didn’t buy any pop or any snacks that were ready to eat. If I wanted to eat something, I had to make it. Instead of stuffing my face from a chip bag, I had to make something, which meant prep and clean…
America, Delusional.
A high speed rail that has to stop at every little town would be kinda pointless. I don’t follow the debate much, but what concessions are rural areas making exactly?
