Three Billboards isn’t about racism. The character was an awful person and his racism was just one component of that. If the film wanted to “redeem” him they could have had him succeed in finding the real killer. Instead they discover he’s innocent but figure he must be guilty of “something” and go after him anyway. So it turns out the brief blip where the Oscar nominations were actually exciting and interesting was a passing phase rather than a new trend, I suppose.
And yet even the countries that went metric only accepted part of it. There was also decimal time (ten hours in a day, a hundred minutes in an hour, each with a hundred seconds). The French Revolutionaries used it for a bit, but that was it.
This was one of the more underrated movies of 2018. This article helps explain why. The only thing I felt it didn’t earn was the ending, but this is a damn near flawless film.
