There are a million Black people in Canada. One million. There are very few in BC, but a ton in Ontario and some elsewhere. It is funny to me how people think Canada is so White. It’s not. It’s extremely diverse in the largest cities.

Not sure why you think you can’t find soul food ingredients in Canada. There are ham hocks at the local Asian store that all ethnicities shop at. Maybe grits would be harder to find; haven’t tried to find them.
