My impression was that 85 percent of the movie was video game cut scenes... there really was no effort what so ever of combining CGI and real life, so what's the point of trying to show the two.

I bet action movies in general wind up with a lot of dialog on the floor. I don’t even remember there being a “love arc” just an admit that they were together in the past. The only arc I can vaguely remember being something along the lines of caring for the kids, which was handled way better in the original movie.
