This is so cool! She also has a blog here ([arlynnpresser.wordpress.com]) and apparently a documentary is coming out about her adventure ([onmilwaukee.com]). I thought I'd drop these here since the first thing I thought while reading this was that I wanted to know more. Pretty awesome.

hahaha I love this comment.

That last paragraph sounds like when people complain about seeing supposedly 'able-bodied' people parking in handicapped spaces because they can walk out of their own car. Seriously?

Viola Davis looks amazing in this! I'm a little torn — Ides of March did have two ladies over forty in it, and Michael Clayton (he produced) had the indomitable Swinton in it, but I still don't feel like his directorial choices are particularly diverse in terms of age and obviously race. And they never have an older

I'm not saying they did or didn't, just that she wasn't known to be fluent before she ran away, and speaking basic Spanish is a lot a lot different than being fluent. It shouldn't have been able to 'fool officials' if it was asked, especially since Houstonians should be used to hearing fluent Spanish speakers. Also,

Improper detention and deportation of American citizens is far more likely than you think. And you should read the link I gave you about Luis Alberto Delgado — they questioned him for /eight hours/ to get him to sign. So even if you start the process in your right mind, you could potentially be coerced.

So you could probably fool a native Spanish speaker? Because I have a hard time believing that ICE in Houston wouldn't have one on hand.

I am now always going to think of those scenarios with me as a double agent, spying for good and ready to lay down the law!

I am white and Peruvian but apparently having light olive skin means that 'omg you don't look Latina' and 'no you can't be Hispanic' are the only correct responses upon learning my ethnicity. I think my fave is when people seem to think 'not looking Latino' is some kind of compliment? So I feel you on this, so hard. I

Uh ICE could have done a lot of things differently. It's not like they don't deport US citizens who HAVE proper paperwork on their person at the time of arrest though, so I can't say I am surprised that this happened, only that people seem to think that ICE has any desire to make sure that minorities picked up are

Man, no. ICE has definitely deported US citizens before, citizens that they had complete information on (including social security number ([blog.chron.com])), and these cases keep popping up.

This case is outrageous, and I don't know if "she could have stopped the deportation if she gave authorities her real name" is a particularly reasonable conclusion (and it doesn't belong in this article). There's no proof that she didn't give authorities her real name in an attempt to not get deported and ICE didn't

Can't respond to your comment due to length, but I think there's probably more to the rise of anal sex than just raunch culture.

what about lack of access to contraceptives?

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Whoa, losing weight after surgery — that never happens!11

hahahahahahaha oh man. We're talking about people who can probably afford a modest living otherwise, - citation please.

She's up for best actress in the Globes, at least.

But (everything else in this comment aside)...you're saying explicitly that shaming didn't work for you. So how is fat shaming supposed to be helpful?

omg, he was such a dreamboat for me in Young Hercules.

It's weird to me that the dude who directed The Notebook is the son of John Cassavettes.
