ASC never did do any modifing with McLaren engine on this vehicle. That deal fell through, but they still used the McLaren name.
These were shipped to C & C minus the roof. I remember them coming down the line with no roof, Sedan version. The Capri was a hatchback that was stripped down at ASC , A-posts racked back 2 inches and fully rebuilt after cutting the roof and 1/4 panels.
I soldered the 1/4 panels on the 5.0SC at ASC in Livonia from the begining of production in 84 until I left ASC in 86. These Capri were shipped to ASC fully built (including hatchback and roof) and dismantled and modified at ASC. At the Dearborn Assembly Plant, the Mustang and Capri were built on the same assembly…
