Yeah Danny's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't with his family. And knows it, but can't stop asking. These are some seriously well written, well acted characters.

I saw it the same way—a fair way to gauge how serious Danny was about the restaurant. Robert was the worst, and you do get the sense that all his financial help came with emotional strings attached, but he did still help. Not to mention, it's not unreasonable to expect your adult son to provide for his kid.
