I dunno - some of the shots have a nice Only God Forgives/Spring Breakers thing going on. Granted, that doesn’t exactly work with the source material, but this could turn out to be a nice, indie-flavored, unambitious little SciFi/Horror thing if looked at on its own.

Rebirth—while nominally having a single, unifying narrative—is far more sprawling and generally thematic. Not all Rebirth stories point back to the core story.

Short version: Captain America is a hero who is currently a supervillain because of a bad guy’s trick. He’ll get better.

It’s well documented that will.i.am stole the music, concepts, beats, melodies, and so on for the majority of the Black Eyed Peas’ major hits. As Jalopnik readers know, His car company was, in essence, a scam (a bad one). His claim that one of his cars was stolen was also a probably a scam. His smartwatch was trash.

Exactly!

I can see that, for sure - but I personally feel you’re flattening what ended up being far more textured than what you’re highlighting. In a world of GoT and SVU, this was a far more holistic approach to rape and trauma than seen almost everywhere else (except maybe Jessica Jones). That said, if you want to go ahead

Yes, this is the best show in the genre (and maybe in any genre) when it comes to the majority of sexual issues, which means, of course, people will pile on it for not being perfect.

Interesting that the time between seasons has seen Ruth Negga become an Academy Award-nominated actress (Loving) and co-creator Steve Dillon pass away.

I not only don’t care, it amazes and confounds me that anyone cares—so much so that I sometimes wonder if, when it reports on all the empty promises and theme parks, io9 exists in a mirrorverse where Avatar was actually good. Yes, this would be the same mirrorverse where Eric Stolz played Marty McFly.

There’s a critical concept with the Marvel Netflix shows often referred to as “the wall”—the moment where, about two-thirds of the way through their season, they slam the brakes on the pacing and stakes and preamble for a bit, mostly before pulling it together in the finale.

Four things I always remember about Jake Dobkin:

For a hot half second, I thought that was Andy Whitfield, RIP

I’ve seen him do standup live twice and heard him on live podcasts and, well, frankly, I was worried about him—and this is coming from someone who’s totally accepting of (and sometimes practicing) strong drug and alcohol use. He was very funny live, but clearly not all there, clearly not doing well. I’d seen it before

I just don’t see this making much money in the U.S. or leaving much of an impact in the States. Most of the other recent films based on legendary/bedtime stories haven’t. The Legend of Tarzan, Crowe’s Robin Hood, Cinderella, Oz Great and Powerful, Jack the Giant Killer, etc. all had either poor or moderate U.S.

It’s convoluted stuff like this that makes getting into the Spidey titles sound about as appealing as a migraine. Love when he pops into other titles, but the Slottiverse seems like hard, hard work.
