"Girls with Guns" by Tommy Shaw

I'm honestly curious: did this start out as Max Landis Spec Script #87 and just get the Dirk Gently name slapped onto it late in production because BBC/BBCA figured they might get a few more viewers that way? Because this appears to be almost entirely unlike the actual Dirk Gently stories in just about every way

Our work is done here! Go spread the infection, er, word.

W. Morgan Shepard is pretty much the ultimate "Hey, it's that guy!" — name a scifi TV series made in the last 40 years in the US and there's good odds he's guested on it at least once if not twice. He's one of the exceedingly small list of actors with speaking parts on both Star Trek and Doctor Who (as is his son),

This seems like a potentially amusing and fun production of something that has nearly nothing at all to do with Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency.

No, The Hidden definitely still has a small but fervent cult of supporters, among whom I proudly count myself.

For a while, it was cool to complain that Tarantino had ripped off Lam’s movie wholesale, but that’s not really the case; it’s more that Lam presented a scenario, and Tarantino used that situation to take off running.

"Buy our console and then ignore your pets and loved ones" is kind of a weird note to launch on, but…okay?

Janelle Monáe just turned 30 this year, and so far the scorecard reads: two stone classic albums, a record label hosting at least one other breakout star (Jidenna) and now a turn in what's looking like the hands-down most universally acclaimed movie of 2016.

"…Naomie Harris … Mahershala Ali … Janelle Monáe"

…which makes the last above-average X-movie well over 12 years ago now. :(

On the one hand: that trailer looks…pretty good?

I'd say that there's a bit of an uptick around the showdown at Harlem's Paradise with the hostages and then everything goes to hell. :(

I'm pretty sure that the balcony coming down was all-CGI in post.

They do both films and the occasional concert there: I saw the Iggy Pop / Josh Homme tour there and it was awesome.

If anything the shots in the show under-sold it. It's this insane rococo masterpiece: if Doctor Doom designed a movie theater for the capital of Latveria, it'd pretty much look like the United Palace.

Spoiler: He doesn't get better.

Upper Manhattan inside baseball commentary: holy shit, they used the United Palace as a location! That place is an amazing, mostly unknown gem; more people should go there. (And Lin Manuel Miranda just paid to have their projector replaced!)

I…what?

Oh, he totally has punch face. The glory of Shades is that by the end of the series you realize that his smugness is basically justified: he really is that much smarter than just about everyone around him.
