If the creative people with whom Anita Sarkeesian meets have so little conviction in their work that they wilt to her whims the moment she talks about what she values in the depiction of women in games, that’s on them, no?

I’m all for people criticizing video games. what I don’t like is when those critics are going into dev studios and telling them to change stuff in their games. effectively telling the developer to self censor anything that they don’t approve of.

Sarkeesian’s project, if nothing else, helped propel a lot of discussion about women and games, about what matters and what doesn’t. And she got it all done before Valve could even release Half-Life 3.

As a fan of two-finger salute to online tropes as well as satire AND a diehard fan of bubbly saccharine pop, I am in favor of this. The music is actually pretty catchy as well.

The process of changing a detailed model to a 2d texture can be called LOD’ing, or Level of Detail. All games use this to a degree, but open world games take this to the extreme since so much can be seen at once to the player.

I see absolutely nothing to “defend”. Why anyone would need to justify the way they play a game, especially a single-player title, is beyond me. To me, the developer’s original design is always nothing more than a suggestion and a gaming experience is what you make of it.
