The point isn’t that there were no sea shanties at that time, but that the shanties in Black Flag date from much later.

My problem with minimaps, and in many cases, maps, is that you lose the surprise of finding out what’s behind the next corner. Imagine if Dark Souls had a map. It would ruin the game.
