My current favourite is Live Wire, an old Pierce Brosnan thriller about a special water that turns people into bombs. It was all on YouTube but I think it's been taken down - but the trailer sums up its appeal.

I’ve watched it with a cinema audience a couple of times and that’s a really fun experience (especially if you go with someone who's never seen it before - it's easy to get swept up in the atmosphere). But I don't know if I'll ever watch it at home. That seems more of a slog.

Nah, kids are still into it. My six year old son found it this year and loves it - we read the first book, he’s seen the films (we rewatched the original at the cinema this past weekend), plays the Lego games, has a Lego Knight Bus and will wear his costume whenever he has a chance. And none of that is down to me

Agreed. The other three sisters put in fantastic performances and she was fine but just... there. Such a shame that Emma Stone had to drop out of that role. That would have been a killer line-up.

My favourite description of him is “Ed Sheeran looks like the sort of person who would queue up to meet Ed Sheeran”

I love Azkaban so I’ll disagree there. But I enjoyed the coverage of Potter over the years and how every installment (mostly from Azkaban onwards - but even with the second because of murders and messages written in blood) was Potter Goes Dark. But then franchise sequels being touted as darker is as much of a cliche

I rewatched Philosopher’s Stone at the cinema this weekend and it’s as good an adaptation of the book as anyone could have hoped for. I worked the opening weekend at my local cinema and I can’t describe the excitement of the children going into and out of the screens. It was such a great atmosphere. For them it was

The sequel was poorly written reportedly”

But Buffy's Fear Itself aired in 1999 too!

Twone

“Jackson probably had his pick of producers and financeers when he decided to sign on considering his talent”

This is a great piece on it from earlier this year:

It’s got 73% on Rotten Tomatoes. One could argue their algorithm but even with that caveat it’s not “panned by critics” - but because The AV Club wasn’t keen I guess that’s the narrative.

I wish this had taken the time to ask about what it was like for her and her costars to adapt their characters and approaches from Teen Titans and Teen Titans Go!.

That would be before my internet days but I can well imagine it starting with that. Star Wars fans not being known for their eloquently non-hyperbolic responses to disappointment.

“This is the kind of role that only comes along once in a lifetime”

To be fair, the Lucas raping childhoods thing started in 1999 (the AICN comment threads from what I remember). South Park was using it to spoof people’s reactions to Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. And I never took the moral as that. I don’t doubt that Parker and Stone weren’t fans of Indy 4 but I also think by using

No one wants to have to scroll down quickly enough to get rid of the fucking autoplay video that otherwise floats over the top third of the page trying to superficially up its view count and then slowly scroll back up to read the text it was covering up.

They should have followed Scre4m with 5cream.

Whereas her work with William Orbitt on Beautiful Stranger for Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me was perfect for the film and and great song to boot!
